"Uber Enters Partnership with Government-Backed ONDC to Enhance Mobility Services"

 

Uber, the global tech transport company, has forged an agreement with the central government-supported Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) aimed at enhancing service delivery for Indian consumers. This collaboration was unveiled by the cab aggregator firm on February 22.

 

Expressing enthusiasm about this milestone, Uber India and South Asia President, Prabhjeet Singh, remarked, "We are thrilled to embark on this journey through our Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ONDC, as we explore ways to expedite our mission of making Uber a go-to platform for daily mobility needs across India."

 

During a discussion with Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani on the development of technology at population scale, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi emphasized the significance of India's digital public infrastructure, stating that both global corporations and governments could draw lessons from its scale and ambition. Khosrowshahi added, "Our vision for Uber in India is aligned with ONDC's goal of democratizing digital commerce, as we strive to cater to the mobility requirements of every Indian."

 

T Koshy, the chief of ONDC, hailed the MoU as a crucial step towards enabling diverse mobility solutions for the Indian populace. "Given the continuous evolution of the Open Network, the Mobility, Transport, and Travel (MTT) sector holds significant importance. Collaboration among various stakeholders on the network fosters innovation and novel business models. Today's MoU marks a significant leap forward, one that we anticipate will facilitate a wide array of mobility solutions to benefit every Indian," remarked the ONDC managing director.

 

Uber's announcement follows its rival, Ola, joining the government-supported initiative in September last year, with a focus on offering food delivery services.
